Catalyst-Free / Straight Type
Since the catalytic converter is located immediately downstream of the turbocharger, engine tuning to increase power or for motorsports can cause high temperatures and pressures from the combustion chamber to the catalytic converter, placing a heavy load on the engine and potentially causing the catalytic converter to melt.
Replacing the downpipe with a catalytic converter-less straight-type design reduces exhaust backpressure and temperature, thereby lowering the load on the engine. Depending on the tuning or intended use, this becomes increasingly necessary for engine protection.
Lowering the exhaust backpressure after the turbo improves exhaust flow, which also contributes to increased power.
